rooted beauty lip butters

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

While there are so many causes out there that need our attention and help, this one strikes a chord with me because of the severity of the issue and how it affects people here at home and abroad.

  • Every 24 seconds, a child is trafficked.
  • Human trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world and is predicted to outrank the drug industry.
  • Currently in the United States there are an estimated 100,000-300,000 minors in the commercial sex trade.

While I’m normally skeptical of companies that randomly latch on to a certain cause for the “feel-good” factor, Rooted Beauty’s founders made me feel as though they genuinely care about making an impact on women’s lives — and via a clean beauty product, at that!

Each Rooted Beauty product helps a woman escape poverty and trafficking through the Woman2Woman Project, and you can see the progress of each product’s sales to discover the impact. How inspiring is that?

{Rooted Beauty sent me samples of its lip balms, which are available in Passionfruit, Lime and Orange Vanilla.}

Through the creation of green beauty products such as natural lip balms housed in smart, compostable eco-tubes; facial cleansers; face wipes; and face moisturizers, Rooted Beauty offers a simple array of clean beauty basics that introduces younger girls to green beauty or just punches up your own cosmetics bag with some bright colors and tasty, smell-good flavors and scents.

I had the opportunity to sample Lip Butter Trio and easily fell in love with the happy flavors (lime, passionfruit and orange vanilla) — especially during this time of year when fresh citrus fruits seem so far away.

The formula is thick thanks to shea butter and beeswax; sometimes I like to warm it up a bit by swirling it on my finger before applying it to my lips.

The balm is easy to push up in the compostable container (think push pop) and makes for a great conversation piece when your friends or coworkers see you applying the balm (first, the explanation of the fun container and then the story of what the product supports!).

Check out the ingredients of each flavor below:

I’m a fan of Rooted Beauty products and its mission.

I’d love to see more beauty startups be as transparent and passionate about their social initiatives, and they could take a cue from Rooted Beauty’s approach; stories of who the product is helping, how far along in the mission they’re coming and what organizations they’re partnering with to bring strength to the mission.

And of course, major kudos for creating a clean, green product line that helps women without harming them via toxic ingredients.
