Oh hey, remember that time I did a few makeup of the day posts (here and here)?

Well, I haven’t forgotten about them. I just haven’t really figured out how to capture the more exciting things I do with my makeup.

One of these days I’ll actually get pictures of me in fierce eye and lip colors (though a lot of you commented on my lip color from this post).

This MOTD post pretty much sums up my everyday face — and also gives you another glimpse at my short haircut (sorry, still getting used to it!).

Here’s what I used to achieve this “gold smoke” makeup of the day look:

*Foundation: Purely You Minerals Foundation in Warm Fairly Medium

You can read my full review of Purely You Minerals Foundation in this recent beauty scoop blog post!

Concealer: RMS Beauty “Un” Cover-Up in 22

I’m almost out of my first pot of RMS’ cult “Un” Cover-Up concealer. It’s taken me a while to figure out how to best use it, but with help from my green makeup guru Pemberley Jones, I’m now sold on the sheered-out method of applying this coconut oil-based concealer. If you’re ready to clean up your makeup act, I recommend playing with RMS’ gorgeous line — even oily-skinned girls like me can benefit from cream-based colors and concealers!

*Eye Shadow: bareMinerals “READY” Eyeshadow 4.0 REMIX Edition in “The Next Big Thing”

A slight departure from my typical brunette eye shadow palette, bareMinerals has won me over with its “The Next Big Thing” palette thanks to flashes of gold, eggplant smoke, salmon and champagne tones. I’m wearing the bottom two colors, “Smash Hit” and “Ensemble,” focusing “Smash Hit” all over my lid and then focusin “Ensemble” on the corners of my eyes and bottom lash line for a light, daytime-appropriate smoky eye. I’m very impressed with bareMinerals’ pressed mineral shadows and am loving the palettes I’ve tried so far!

*Mascara: Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes

I used to use Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara religiously during my search for a cleaner mascara. While I’m still experimenting with several new-to-me brands, Tarte’s mascara is an always-reliable, cleaner-than-conventional backup. I’m happy to have gotten this backup tube of Tarte from my friends at Beauty Brands and am re-discovering the magic of this lengthening and curling mascara.

*Lip Gloss: bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in “Trail Blazer”

I’ve reviewed bareMinerals’ Marvelous Moxie glosses before, and totally love them for their sweet color punch and tingly feel. But there’s also something sexy about a simple, sheer lip that had me feeling all Angelina Jolie in this look. “Trail Blazer” is a great color to have when you want to play with smoky eyes or just need a good, everyday gloss.

Blush: Alima Pure Luminous Shimmer Blush in “Freja”

This is my first experience with Alima Pure blush (I got this in my Goodebox!). I have to say, a little goes a long way with this particular shade of blush — the color payoff is high, and I definitely did a little extra buffing to make my heavy-handed application look more “flushed” than “freakish.” Besides my user error, I really like this blush — the loose minerals are beautiful and again, the color is high-impact.

*Brow Pencil: Dior “Diorshow” Brow Styler

Ah, the brows. As you may remember, I’m still using my dirty Anastasia brow kit (see info here) as I search for a replacement. On an ingredients level, Dior’s “Diorshow” Brow Styler is a better mainstream option compared to Anastasia — no parabens, but contains talc and mineral oil — and I do like the thin, mechanical pencil-style applicator in the styler. It allows me to create thin, hair-like strokes on the inner brows (the part that needs the most thickening for me). However, the ingredients still aren’t the cleanest, and while I could probably live with having the talc in there (it doesn’t cause irritation for me), the mineral oil isn’t appealing. Dior, please update your formulations to be sans mineral oil!
