I’m on the hunt for new, natural cosmetics, and one brand that’s easy to turn to in the beginning is Aveda. Aveda has built a brand philosophy rooted in the well-being of people and the environment — and in products that work.

I’ve used Aveda haircare products off and on throughout the years, but am just now becoming familiar with Aveda cosmetics. On one recent shopping trip, I stopped into an Aveda salon and perused the makeup offerings. The Inner Light Mineral Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 caught my eye, as I’m specifically looking for a product to replace my beloved (but not really natural) Clinique tinted moisturizer.

After a test application, I decided to give it a whirl. I threw down $28 plus tax for this 1.7-ounce tube of tinted moisturizer with the promise that if for any reason I didn’t love it, I could bring it back for a full refund if it wasn’t more than 2/3 used.

I used Aveda Inner Light Mineral Tinted Moisture in Beechwood three times, and I have to say, it’s not my favorite. It has a sticky, thick consistency that feels heavy even after it’s smoothed on and blended into the skin. I’m assuming this tacky texture is from the natural titanium dioxide SPF base.

While the light coverage and sun protection is the reason I lean toward tinted moisturizers, this one just doesn’t have the smooth feeling I long for in a daily foundation. I’ll be taking it back for a refund — but luckily, while I was there the first time, I picked up an additional Aveda foundation to try that I am in love with. It might be my holy grail of foundations. Stay tuned for that beauty scoop later this week.
