makeup of the day | whipped

kimberlyloc makeup of the day

After going basically makeup-free throughout much of my Mexican vacation, I’m giddy to play with new colors and textures this season.

Though I’m not typically one for dramatic makeup (besides perhaps a super cat eye here and there), I did find myself loving an especially bright lip whip along with some pretty shadow colors from a new smoky eye palette.

See my look below and read on to find out what I used!

Get the “Whipped” Look:

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof 12-Hour Concealer in “Medium”

This is a constant repurchase for me. I love swiping it under my eyes, around my nose and onto any spots I may have. The coverage is perfect for every day, and the color matches my skin well. Please note that I’m not a purist when it comes to makeup, and Tarte is just fine to me.

*Alima Pure Pressed Foundation with Rosehip Antioxidant Complex in “Nutmeg”

Just when I thought Alima Pure couldn’t get any better (I loooove their mineral foundations — you are basically guaranteed a color match!), they come out with a perfect pressed powder in colors that match my fair, yellow/neutral skin tone. This pressed powder’s coverage is medium-to-high, and the texture feels as creamy as a powder can get. I like to apply this with a fluffy brush to get a more medium coverage, and will use the enclosed powder puff to touch up during the day.

*Dusty Girls Natural Mineral Blush in “Golden Delicious”

Made by our friends in Australia, this mineral blush can double as a bronzer for the ultimate golden delicious glow. Its warm tint offers just enough pink to pass for a blush, and extends that tropical vacation glow.

The Balm Luminzer in “Mary-Lou Manizer”

This is another constant repurchase for me. Sometimes, I just can’t handle a cream luminzer, so I opt for this non-glittery shimmer powder to give my skin a little highlight. The pan lasts forever since a little of this goes a long way. I like to apply it with the Real Techniques Setting Brush.

*Kari Gran Lip Whip in “Jolene”

The color and texture that inspired this post, “Jolene” commands attention without screaming out your name. The vibrant magenta hue brightens up the dreariest day, but can easily be layered with more subtle colors to tone it down thanks to the light, whipped formula. I’m a huge fan of the Kari Gran Lip Whips (I keep the Tinted Lip Whips in my desk at work), and it’s awesome to see the line expand with more fun colors and collabs.

Jane Iredale Brow Powder in “Brunette”

This is hands down my favorite brow powder. The color and texture is just right — not too dark, and not too dense. I haven’t had to repurchase yet because it’s lasted so long! But it’s an easy repurchase and recommend.

*Antonym Cosmetics Eyeliner in “Noir”

I rarely use non-liquid liners anymore, but I had a sample of this from a recent beauty box and decided to give it a go. The creamy gel-like line glided onto my lids with absolute ease for a thick, luscious line that made my eyes pop. The formula slid off onto my lids a bit (I’m oily!), but it wasn’t a major issue (and is pretty normal for me and all non-liquid liners).

*Jane Iredale Eye Shadows “Pure Gold,” “Bone,” and “Rose Gold” from the “In the Blink of a Smoky Eye” Palette

While I clearly am not rocking a smoky eye here, this palette empowers me to take some risks when I’m ready and offers ideas on exactly how to use the eight eye shadows in the kit. For now, I’m loving the subtle shades of gold for every day. The color payoff is high and the fallout is low. Sounds like Jane Iredale quality to me!

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

My go-to eyelash curler for years. I’ve yet to find a better one for my eye shape.

*W3ll People Expressionist Mascara in “Black”

Thanks to The Detox Market’s new “Best of Green Beauty 2015” box, I got to try one of the most-raved about mascaras out there. I’m still experimenting with this mascara and hope to update my “ultimate guide to natural mascaras” very soon, but so far, so good. I like how well it separates and elongates my lashes for a natural yet defined look. And, most importantly: No flakes or smears!

  • WOW. Looking so flawless and feline-like ;) LOVE this look.

p.s. I used to LOVE that Tarte concealer. You just reminded me to pick that up again. I don’t know why Tarte gets so much hate in the GB community. I honestly think their ingredients are fine. I think sometimes people get a little too extreme with things. I’ve always been a fan of Tarte and think they are great for those who are trying to switch over to a more non-toxic lifestyle.

    • Agree! To each her own … and for me, that includes Tarte :)
