schmidt's natural deodorant ylang ylang and calendula

Something really exciting happened to me this month.

My girl Pamela of Pemberley Jones crowned me the armpit queen (and I guess she launched her online beauty boutique too, no biggie) thanks to the obnoxious number of natural deodorant reviews I have on the blog.

To keep my crown of armpits guarded, I’m bringing you a new natural deodorant review from much-loved Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant, which stood one of the ultimate underarm tests: SXSW.

{Schmidt’s sent me samples of its natural deodorant to review. A 2-ounce glass jar retails for $9.}

I used Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant for two weeks prior to jetting off to Austin for South by Southwest to ensure I’d have no reactions (my pits can be sensitive to baking soda).

While I was in the clear, I was skeptical of how well Schmidt’s would perform in some Southern heat.

You do not doubt the Schmidt’s.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant rocked throughout my time in Austin; I finished up two small samples of Bergamot + Lime (my favorite scent!) and Lavender Sage while I was away from home, and nobody in the great state of Texas complained about me.

That is not normal!

While back at home, I put Schmidt’s through the Ashtanga Yoga test, and I smelled just fine throughout the entire 1.5-hour long sweaty practice.

Again, not normal!

I cannot rave more about this nontoxic, natural deodorant. Not once did I experience any stank or irritation.

I even applied Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant onto freshly shaved pits — surely I’d regret that.

Just fine!

My only critique of Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant is in regard to its consistency.

This isn’t a fluffy, whipped cream-like natural deodorant similar to others on the market; it has a hard, thick feel that requires a little spoon to dig out product.

While that’s not a dealbreaker, it is a little inconvenient.

But again, the whole idea of applying deodorant with your fingers is inconvenient, but I’m over that.

I cannot get over, however, the amazing scent combinations that Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant offers:

Cedarwood + Juniper

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Cedrus deodara (Himalayan cedar) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Juniperus (juniper) essential oil, Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Ylang Ylang + Calendula

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Calendula officinalis (calendula) essential oil, Cananga odorata (ylang-ylang) essential oil, Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Bergamot + Lime

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Citrus bergamia (bergamot) essential oil, Citrus aurantifolia (lime) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Lavender + Sage

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Salvia sclarea (clary sage) essential oil, Lavandula (lavender) essential oil, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Fragrance-Free

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder, Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant is absolutely on my repurchase list. Simply put, it works — and I really like the idea of having limey pits.

Hello miss, I have seen a few good reviews about this deodorant, But does it not feel a bit greasy ? x

    • I think most natural deodorants have an oil component to them, so while you will feel that, it’s kinda nice to have softness in your pits :)

  • I’ve just wrote about this one, I love it! :) xx

    • Nice! Which scent do you prefer? The lime is incredible.

      • Yes, the lime is incredible and I also love the ylang ylang :)

The most effective, natural deodorant I’ve ever used. I started with the Calendula Ylang-ylang, but prefer the unscented now.

I’m interested in this brand, but I’m not sure if I really like the sound of any of the fragrances.

Normally I wouldn’t really care about what deo I use, but I kinda realized that all the main drugstore brands test on animals. Plus, aluminum has been doing so little for my pits lately, so what’s the point? I got this deodorant from a store called Morning Calm on Etsy. Great smell, traditional stick application, and lasts pretty long.

I got 2 samples from schmidts. Very nice company-samples are $4. Unfortunately I just do not do well with baking soda so despite the lovely smell I have to give the unused sample away :(

    • No bueno! I don’t usually do well with baking soda-based deodorant, either (Soapwalla killed my pits!), but I’ve learned to use a generous amount to get enough of the moisturizing creams and to mix well. I hope you find a good fit soon!

Hey! Maybe a silly question, but what do you use to apply this? If my fingernails are even a bit past my cuticle point everything gets stuck under them. Do you use an applicator?

    • Not a silly question at all! Schmidt’s Deodorants come with a little applicator to scoop out the product (though I prefer to just use a spoon). I actually apply with my fingers … using the pads of my fingers and sometimes the backs of them to massage / roll it in.

I just tried Schmidt’s deodorant. I have been using Native which by the way I like, but doesn’t seem to be strong enough. I tried Schmidt’s Coconut Pineapple and I love it. I work for food service in a nursing home and this deodorant seems to keep me dry and smell free. Could be on a day I am not working Native is fine and I like the fragrances they both offer.
