beauty & style secrets | how to survive south by southwest

Greetings from Austin, Texas!

I’m currently nerding out with my coworkers at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival.

This is my first time to attend the massive meetup (total n00b over here), and while I *think* I have planned accordingly, you never really know until it’s over.

Here’s what I’ll be toting around during my time in Austin — what other recommendations do you have?

{One thing I may be missing: bandages for sore feet … but I think I packed sensible shoes!}

1. Sunglasses

Even though rain is in the forecast, you gotta have some shades to be able to 1) creep on people; 2) not look too awkward when you’re lost and 3) protect your eyes and delicate skin from the UV rays!

2. Kashi Honey Almond Flax Granola Bars

It’s not fun to be around me when I’m hungry. To keep myself in check, I grabbed a box of Kashi granola bars to stash in my tote for those times when I just can’t get to a food truck.

3. W3ll People Nudist Lipshine Stick in 1

My Goodebox must have known I was making a trip to the home of W3ll People this month, as I received this yummy tinted lip balm in my subscription box! Look at me, doing as the local natural beauties do.

4. Klean Kanteen

I’m a BYOB type of gal — especially when I have a feeling that the price of bottled water is going to be jacked up high. My 40-ounce Klean Kanteen should be just enough to get me through a day of nerding out.

5. Soleil Organique Environmental Defense Daily Moisturizer for Face SPF 20

Hours of walking around outside in Texas sunshine = so many more chances for sun damage. I’ll be testing out this new sunscreen from Soleil Organique to see how well it holds up in high-stress moments in the Texas heat.

6. Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value Citrus Hand Sanitizer

Just because it’s nice and warm down here doesn’t mean everybody is healthy and happy. I’ll be disinfecting after every session with this natural hand sanitizer (don’t take it personally!).

7. Mophie iPhone Charger

Huge tech meetups call for lots of tweeting, Instagramming and texting. I hear that outlets are in hot demand here, so instead of fearing the dreaded “10% battery” warning, I’ll be bringing my backup charger via Mophie for a extra boost of juice.

8. Business Cards

Here’s some dead trees that are still pretty cool and useful: business cards! I’ve got a stash of my work and blog cards to share with the interesting entrepreneurs, tech startup peeps and natural beauty enthusiasts I come across while I’m here.

9. Ibuprofen

I’m going to assume that a few headaches or bodyaches are going to be coming my way from the information overload and constant running around to different session locations in downtown Austin — ibuprofen to the rescue!
