You may have noticed that I have (finally!) begun to update my “favorites” page.
I started the page off by listing my favorite tried-and-true cream and foaming cleansers.
Today, though, I’m going to tell you about a new cleanser I’ve been using that *may* have to make the list: Desert Essence’s Thoroughly Clean Face Wash.
I picked up this cleanser at Whole Foods at the beginning of September (remember this Instagram of my mini-haul?) and have been using it about three times a week.
(Why not seven times a week? Because sometimes I just wash my face with jojoba oil and towel off the residue with warm water.)
I tend to use this cleanser, which is infused with tea tree oil, around my typical hormonal acne flare-up times of the month. I’ll suds up some of my Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash and massage it in for five minutes to let the ingredients penetrate my pores as much as possible.
Check out the ingredients:
Castile Soap, Coconut Oil, Tall Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Hydrastis Canadensis, Goldenseal Root Extract, Awapuhi Root Extract, Bladderwrack Extract, Palmarosa Oil, Bitter Orange Peel Oil, Lavender Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Oil, Calendula Flower Oil, Blue Cypress Wood Oil
After using this, I’ll treat and prevent breakouts with a layer of jojoba oil mixed with tea tree oil before bedtime — my skin loves the 1-2 punch of cleansing and treating with the best essential oil for acne!
The only critique I have of this cleanser is the slippery-ness of it because of castile soap. If you’re a Dr. Bronner’s fan, you know what I mean — castile soap, which is amazing and gentle, is also very runny.
When you squirt the cleanser, aim well and lather quickly! You don’t want product going down the drain.
Have you tried Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash? What do you think of it — and castile cleanser in general? Leave me a comment!
