Did you participate in any of the fun shopping parties during Fashion’s Night Out on Thursday? (Read this post if you’re unfamiliar with Fashion’s Night Out.)
I got ready for the night of shopping, food and fun about a week earlier, when I was invited to style a mannequin at our local department store, Halls. I chose to dress my girl in some black leather Jason Wu pants; a fuchsia Rachel Zoe sleeveless top; and a silver Eileen Fisher kimono wrap.
She got bedazzled with a gold elephant necklace; a gold, three-strand necklace; and topped off with an eggshell-colored Mulberry bag.
For her tootsies (which, well, were non-existent, but let’s pretend!), I paired her with some awesome pink-and-snakeskin Brian Atwood boots.
Jess and I made Halls our first stop for Fashion’s Night Out to check out my girl, but of course we got a little distracted in the beauty department. We both went home with new nail polishes after sipping on a delightful alcoholic slushie from Snow & Co., which provided drinks at the event. I signed up for several giveaways and shopping sprees (and, OK, may have signed up the teacher man to win, too), and am crossing my fingers that I get a call or email about a big win soon!
After we hit up Halls, we headed downtown to spend the rest of the evening at the Garment District Boutique Collective (where we will be hosting Fashionistas on a Mission on Sept. 22!). We registered to win some fun prizes, and were rewarded with some goodie bags filled with coupons, magazines, a scarf and (my favorite) a mini-bottle of cava. I picked up a few new pieces of jewelry to round out my purchases for the night (accessories for the entire body!).

{Clockwise, from left: Got a bottle of Chanel “Vamp,” a classic that belongs in every nail polish collection; kept putting on this lip-shaped bracelet at the Garment District, so I had to have it; got my first baubl-y necklace, which I wore to the Kansas City Fashion Week red carpet show on Friday; a jewelry purchase wouldn’t be complete with a big, flashy ring for my middle finger}
After all the fun shopping and mingling, Jess and I stepped across the street to The Gallery to hang out with our local Kansas City Fashion Week designers, staff, photographers and models. Jess and I may have attempted a fierce runway walk after a few sips of liquid courage, but the majority of the night was spent talking with excited, talented designers about their new collections and upcoming shows.
{We had to get a pic with our girl Whitney Manney, who we first watched back in the spring. She is a local designer to watch; not only is this her first showing at Kansas City Fashion Week post-graduation from the Kansas City Art Institute, she is the only Kansas City designer invited to show at Saint Louis Fashion Week next month! {American Trash designer Karma Jade never ceases to amaze me. I obsessed about this dress from the spring/summer 2012 collection for the longest time, and was so thrilled to finally meet the creative behind the trash-to-treasure line! Photo Courtesy Derrick Yule Photography}
{This is pretty much my favorite picture from the evening. Can you tell who the boutique owner/bloggers are and who the models are? We had such a great time hanging with Garment District Boutique owner Annette Pinter (far left) as well as Fashion Week director Teisha Barber (middle) and models Justin Adrian and Jasmine Moore. This is such an inspiring, high-energy group to be around, and I’m so glad to be a part of the Kansas City Fashion Week team in a bigger way this year. Cheers to a successful week of fall fashion! Oh, and can we talk a minute about Derrick Yule and his pretty little pics? I noticed him at the Garment District and knew he needed to be my new best friend. We had such a fun evening talking about everything from the downtown KC scene, travel and boyfriends. I hope you’ll check out his page and call him for your next shindig!
