kansas city fashion week first friday photo shoot | kansas city, missouri

It’s been months since I’ve been able to head out to the Crossroads Arts District for First Fridays, Kansas City’s open-gallery night.

However, this past weekend was the perfect time to hit up the bustling arts district — the weather was gorgeous, the food trucks abound and there were more than the usual beautiful people slinking around the streets.

That’s because on Friday, the brains and beauties behind Kansas City Fashion Week offered a sneak peek inside a typical photo shoot for the upcoming event.

To keep all patrons happy (including the teacher man and Jess’ Persian P.Diddy), our cups were filled with delicious Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey the entire night.

{I had the signature “Fashionista” cocktail, made with Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey, soda and fruit juice.}

I met up with Jess of Mimi & Chichi and we ran into the always-on-the-go Erin of Pretty, Polished, Perfect for a night of mingling with models, beauty experts and hair gurus. jess afshar mimi & chichi erin barnes pretty polished perfect kim wallace kimberlyloc

We got a behind-the-scenes look at the fall 2012 collections from local Kansas City designers such as Christian Micheal and Little Shell Designs, and saw both familiar and new faces amongst the sea of models.

{It was so fun to see the Kansas City Fashion Week models in action — and to see the looks on people’s faces as they walked by.}

As usual, I stalked the hair and makeup teams to see what sort of beauty trends will be coming down the runway next month.

Stylists from Evolve Hair, an eco-friendly salon in Kansas City, provided lift, curl, bounce and sleekness to the models’ tresses as I snapped away in admiration.

Makeup artists added glam to models and designers alike in preparation for their close-ups. Bold lips and hints of shimmer dominated the fresh faces on Friday night.

{I loved watching this model get made up. Her skin was so doll-like, and the bright red lips really made her features pop.}

We have less than a month to go until Kansas City Fashion Week 2012! Join Jess and me at this year’s show — buy your tickets now to secure a good seat!

Perhaps I’ll save some Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey for you, too.
