Because I’m a bit more utilitarian when it comes to bags (I use a gigantic tote for my laptop and everyday essentials, and then try to switch it up at night), I’m slow to adopt trends and smaller bags because of pure functionality.
However, that’s changing this season, as I’m getting a bit more keen on accessorizing right down to the purse on my shoulder or clutch in my hands. Here’s a few fun, on-trend bags I’m considering adding to my spring/summer 2012 wardrobe. Bonus: All of these bags are less than $100!
I’ve managed to add some neon into my spring wardrobe, but the highlighter yellow skirt I bought isn’t something I’ll be wearing every week.
To integrate a flash of bright into my everyday look, this Marc by Marc Jacobs Neoprene Wristlet Case is a low-commitment piece that can live in your purse. It’s designed to hold a point-and-shoot camera, but it can also be used for breakable toiletries, like nail polish, because it has a fleece-lined interior.
I’ve been eyeing these envelope-style clutches for a while, but have yet to add one to my evening bag collection. This BCBG Matte Sequins Envelope Clutch caught my eye because of its sleek lines, understated sequins and easy-to-transition-from-season-to-season color.
While this is definitely not the most practical clutch style (I tend to choose clutches that have a wristlet-style to them), the aesthetic of these envelope clutches is just so classy that I can’t resist.
Coming Up Roses
I haven’t had a babydoll backpack since sixth grade (I remember them being all the rage back then!), but it seems like the mini-me style is making a comeback.
I like the floral print and contrasting colors in this Kimchi Blue backpack from Urban Outfitters. It would be the perfect addition to a weekend camping trip (um, if I camped…) or to wear during a summer concert (a little more my style).
