beauty scoop | badger damascus rose spf 16 face sunscreen lotion

May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and with the temperature rising (it was 90 degrees on Saturday!), it’s time to talk about sunscreen.

I committed to wearing sunscreen every day a few years ago. It’s an essential part of my morning routine, and with the right sunscreen, your face won’t feel heavy or greasy. If you’re just now thinking about sunscreen, that’s fine, but I encourage you to integrate it into your everyday beauty ritual — you won’t regret it when you’re older!

While I have several bottles stashed to try, I’ve been alternating between two for the past few weeks. Right now, I’m loving Badger’s Damascus Rose SPF 16 Face Sunscreen Lotion.

Remember when I reviewed Badger’s Organic Damascus Rose Face Oil? This sunscreen is in the same product family, and it’s absolutely wonderful. It’s lightweight, smells so good (no weird sunscreen smell) and doesn’t leave that dreaded white cast on your face the way some natural sunscreens do.

Badger Damascus Rose SPF 16 Face Sunscreen Lotion is formulated with non-nano, uncoated zinc oxide for natural, safe sun protection, and it also includes organic aloe extract, organic extra virgin olive oil and organic rose oils to soften the skin.

I use 1.5 pumps on my entire face and neck in the morning and allow it to sink into my skin (about five minutes) as I brush my teeth and fix my hair. It’s no problem to layer makeup over this sunscreen, and you really don’t need an additional moisturizer after using it.

My only issue with Badger’s Damascus Rose SPF 16 Face Sunscreen Lotion is the SPF number. I prefer to use SPF 30, which is in line with the American Academy of Dermatology’s recommendations, but 16 should suffice for everyday use (i.e. you’re basically indoors the whole day). I’d recommend reapplying this sunscreen often if it’s your main source of face protection outside on a hot day!

Is it heating up in your area? Does your morning beauty ritual include sunscreen? What kind do you use? Tell me what you know in the comments section.

Yes! I’d like to prevent as many wrinkles for Future Me as I can, so I use sunscreen everyday. (I’ve come to terms with my pale complexion and am just fine with it now!) I’m a fan of Yes to Carrots SPF 15 Facial Moisturizer. It’s lightweight and doesn’t leave that white residue that many zinc oxide-based products are known for. I’ve never been concerned with the low SPF, mostly because I’ve never thought about it. But I do sit inside all day, and my makeup has about the same SPF in it, which helps, too. I need to get better at using the sunscreen/moisturizer on my neck and upper chest area, too. I know those are wrinkle prone as well!

I’m looking forward to reading more of your SPF posts! I’ve been trying out different daily facial sunscreens and this one looks great but I need a higher SPF!
