take me to wine country | kansas wineries
I was lucky enough to be a guest at two sustainable wineries last year, and now that summer is officially here, I’m plotting my next excursion to wine country. While I was able to jet off to California and Oregon last summer, this summer, I plan to keep it local (though I may be visiting California again soon enough…).

Kansas is home to a handful of wineries. I’ve tasted a few local wines and have seen interesting types of Kansas wines throughout my area liquor stores. Here’s my to-drink list for summer 2011 (preferably to-drink at a picnic table at a winery!).
- Bluejacket Crossing in Eudora, Kansas
- Davenport Orchards & Winery in Eudora, Kansas
- Holy-Field Vineyard & Winery in Basehor, Kansas
- Kugler’s Vineyard in Lawrence, Kansas
- Oz Winery in Wamego, Kansas
- Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery in Salina, Kansas
- Stone Pillar Vineyard & Winery in Olathe, Kansas
Who’s coming to drink with Dorothy me in the land of Oz grapes?

This sounds like fun! AJ and I have been talking about taking a weekend road trip to some local vineyards and staying at a bed and breakfast for awhile now. Have fun on your excursions!

Definitely! Ben and I went to one today — I’d love to get a “wine bus” to cart us around to all of the local vineyards!

[...] 2.) Find a local winery and indulge in the free samples. (Unless you’re driving of course!) I found a great winery located right off I-70, Stone Hill Winery (the New Florence location). We each walked away with a bottle to enjoy during our stay in Missouri. I bought a bottle of the Chambourcin. Next time I would like to stray further from the highway and see an actual vineyard. There are lots of great wineries around the area. [...]
